Photographers

Printer Hamish Campbell is a fine art photographer himself, and began printing years ago to take control of the quality of his exhibition prints. He knows how highlights and shadows should look and can work with you to carefully colour match to your needs. Custom quotes including multiple rounds of proofing are available if needed. Our price list is here.

Illustrators

We love printing for illustrators and other visual artists, and featuring their work on our blog. If you would like to sell your work in a serious limited edition format that will hang proudly for many years, we want to help you with that! If you are new to printing your work, we can advise on the most suitable paper stock, or even show you some samples in person. Our price list is here.

Archivists

We can print from film negatives, glass plates and more. If you need a high quality print made from a non digital file, we may be able to help you. We are also able to photograph or scan negatives and artworks (including sculptures) for printing, museum cataloging or archival purposes. Check out our scanning services page for more information.

Frames to suit many styles and budgets

Standard Frames

If you let us know the style of frame you’re after, we can provide standard frames and mattes tailored to your needs. We have a large variety of frames and mattes in different styles, materials and colours, all made here in Japan. Read more here.

Handmade Frames

Our most special frames are made by a woodworking artisan in Saitama, who will work with you to make a custom design to your needs. You’re even welcome to visit the workshop and get hands on in the creation process if you like. Read more here.

Carefully Designed

We are able to design, proof and fulfill framing orders remotely, so there’s no need for you to spend time checking materials in person. We can send a mockup of your framed work alongside our quote, so you can be sure of what you’re getting. Read more here.

A variety of darkroom services

Silver Gelatin Prints

We can provide monochrome prints from any type of film negative, from 35mm to large format. We can print based on our own eye, or work closely with you through several rounds of proofing to get the final image exactly as you intend it. We can even produce silver gelatin prints from digital files. Our price list is here.

Darkroom Rental

Our darkroom is available for rental in half or full day blocks. We’ll provide all the chemicals, but ask that you bring your own paper. If you’re printing on fiber based paper, we’ll take care of the lengthy final wash and dry sequence, and you can pick your prints up at a later date, or we can ship them on to you. Read more here.

Darkroom Lessons

If you’d like to try your own hand at printing in the dark room, we can set you up and teach you all the basic skills required. Available as a one day course with all materials provided, or as a two day course where we shoot and develop your shots on the first day, and print on the second. Read more here.

Meet the print team

Hamish Campbell is a photographer who has been living in Japan for over 10 years. Joining him in the studio are Amaterasu and Mikazuki, who help out by looking cute and safely sequestering themselves and their flight-prone fur far away from any active print runs.

Ayami Suzuki is a musician and visual artist in charge of our negative scanning. She has a heavenly singing voice and for some of her video projects she develops her own super 8mm film in her bathtub! Your negatives are in good and safe hands with her.

Francisco Martinez (Paco) is an architect turned wood artist, who creates beautiful pieces in his workshop in idyllic Saitama. He’s responsible for our deluxe custom frames, and is always keen for visitors or pupils to stop by in person.
